Pavement to Parks: More Public Use Parklets Approved in San Francisco

Five new parklets have recently been approved along the Valencia Street corridor in the Mission District.  These bite size mini parks, designed as a place for people to sit, relax and enjoy the neighborhood, will soon be installed in front of Ritual Coffee Roasters, Fabric 8, The Crepe House, Four Barrel Coffee and at a private residence at 937 Valencia Street.

Once constructed, these new additions will bring the total number of parklets in the neighborhood up to 7.  Two parklets have already been built in the Mission District – one at the Freewheel Bike Shop on Valencia Street and the other at Escape From New York Pizza on 22nd Street.

In total, there are applications for 27 new parklets in various neighborhoods throughout San Francisco going through the Department of Public Works approval process.  Let’s hope more get approved soon.
